LINUX textfile to WINDOWS textfile

Admin,
I have a problem, I successfully converted my textfile created in linux (eg. Gedit) to windows notepad.. the format were the same, but I noticed that there is a 2 spaces before the texts and the texts were indented. Please help me.

Currently I'm working on iReport(jasperSoft) software and converting web data to textfile.

bhEsquivel -- you do know that MS windows "notepad " was nice in win95
it was ok in win98
should have been replaced in xp
should NOT have been in vista
and a windows 95 program has NO BUSINESS in win7

install and use the FREE SciTE text editor

I think my major problem here is the software that I'm using which is iReport(jasperSoft).

I have already fixed the indention after I changed the reference of my report here in "iReport"
however, the 2 spaces before the texts are still there

Hi, bhEsquival -

This is absolutely correct:
Quote:
The problem is the convention used to identify a newline in a text file. Usually UNIX/Linux has a different 'convention' from Windows...

Some know about both 'conventions' (like wordpad) and display the text properly, some know just their 'convention' (like notepad) and you need to take care of the transformation yourself (dos2unix/unix2dos).
"unix2dos" is certainly one solution.

Perhaps the EASIEST approach, however, is to read the file in Wordpad (where it displays correctly), then SAVE it from Wordpad.

Saving from Wordpad will convert the file for you. It should then be "correct" in notepad, too

'Hope that helps .. PSM

PS:
It *does* display correctly for you in Wordpad, doesn't it? The original thread was from a couple of years ago; I'm not sure it all necessarily applies to your scenario.

Please let us know!

Actually what I need is to convert it right away to a windows text file format.
If using Wordpad would be the solutions, I think that would not be possible for my case,
because what I'm working is a conversion of web data to text file, and the user of that web is my client in Philhealth, I thnk I could not suggest them to use wordpad, becuase that would take time.
