linux redhat 9.0 crashed or did it

have been using linux for 2 days now.
i was running a terminal(which was actually doing nothing) and mozilla. and all of a sudden the box froze. i could nto close any of the applications.

coming from a windows background, i tried ctrl+alt+del, nothing happened.
i ultimately hit the reset button.

what should i do next time, i just discovered the workspace icon, should i try and switch workspaces and then try to do something(i dont know what though)

You can hit ctrl+alt+bksp and it will log you out. If you can, hit gnome-system-monitor and kill the frozen process.
