Linux migration options (Linux to Linux)

Greetings all,

We have a Linux server (RHAS 3.0) that is currently on a Quad Xeon 550MHz box.

We'd like to migrate this server to a new more powerful server, and possibly resize the disk storage at the same time.

The way we usually do it is to lay down RH on the new server, create the partitions the way we want them, and manually copy all the data over.

This is kind of a tedious and lengthy process.

Does a utility exist for Linux kind of like Ghost or PowerQuest V2i (which I think replaced the old Ghost product from Symantec) that would enable me to basically image the current Redhat box, and restore that image on the new server platform?

Would RH automatically detect the new hardware OK on its first boot up if this method was used?

Are there utilities that would allow me to resize the partitions to make them larger since the new server would have larger storage capacity available?

Any feedback on best approach would be much appreciated.

Thanks all...

Assuming you have a full kernel. No prob. I've shifted distros from P4's to p166's and they boot

As for the actual copy... Not sure. I've only ever used things like cp -a and dd...
