I have been looking for ANY prog. that will do the following in Linux (preferably just as well as the ones available for Windows).

Rip files from commercial DVD to hard drive (even if encrypted) - (Like Clad DVD .NET)

Compress video DVD files ripped to fit on a single layer blank DVD with no noticable loss of quality (Like DVD Shrink)

Convert video DVD files to un-compressed .AVI video files

(Not directly related to DVDs, but indirectly....)

Convert .AVI to .MPG

Edit video files

Capture Video/Audio to a file through ATI All-In-Wonder Pro 9600 card

Play files created with Windows Movie Maker (.WMV files)

Convert .WMV to .AVI/.MPG files

Author VCD/SVCD/DVD from .MPG files


Just having a hard time finding ANY of that. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

dvd::rip is my ripper of choice. The other two that were already mentioned are good to. For video editing and transcoding I use Avidemux.

You can find a lot of good options to try for video encoding/ripping, video editing, video/dvd playing, and video capture on my website.

DVDShrink -> k9copy
convert files -> avidemux, konverter
make DVD -> tovid, mandvd, devede
play wmv -> try VLC media player

another post with the same topic! use k9copy for ripping commercial dvd's (and shrinking them to a 4 gig size. Use DeVeDe for encoding any video format into any other you might wish ( avi to dvd for example)
