Linux 9.0 Format failed on the /home directory

Hi,

I am using a raid 1 configuration. Sucessfully install redhat linux 9.0. I have 160GB harddisk. Does anyone know if there is a limitation of the folder. The problem that i have is the /home directory which is 150GB. Does anyone know if there are any problems formatting that directory?

Get a newer distro - RH9 is depreciated.

Now I've got that out of the way ...

Kernel version may help here (uname -r)

Is the /home directory a mountpoint for a home partition? (Did you select to have a home partition in anaconda? If you don't know then you probably didn't.)

Are you telling us that the fs is telling you that the /home directory and all it's contents occupies 150Mb of disk space? Or are you saying you've reserved 150Mb for /home ?

I ask this because I'm not sure what you are asking.

You do not format directories, you format partitions.

"[Is there] a limitation of the folder[?]" - are you asking if there is a limit to the size of a directory under RH9? AFAIK no. It's just another file. There may be a limit to the size of a file that can be opened tho...

What is the problem with a 150Mb /home directory anyway? Is this not correct? If not, why not?

And - go to My LQ > edit profile ... and stick your location and distro in there so it appears in the sidebar (see left). This will help people help you by a remarkable amount. Honestly tho - if you like RH9, bum a broadband connection of someone and get FC4: much better HW support right there.
