Lilo Question

Ok I just installed Slackware 9.1 w/ KDE and all that sexy stuff. Im running into 1 snag. Whenever I type lilo I get this as an error:

root@box:/home/dte# lilo
part_nowrite: read:: Input/output error
root@box:/home/dte#

/dev/hda2 is bootable with my / partion

Has anyone ran into this? Am I missing a required package? Without lilo working I cannot get upgrad my kernel.

Thanks!

Do you have the virus checking off in your BIOS settings? If not, LILO cannot write to your MBR.

Yes the anti-virus is turned off in bios. What I dont get is that it was running Slackware9.1 not 5 minutes before I reinstalled the whole OS.

What is the part_nowrite partition? If there is an old lilo.conf segment referring to a partition which no longer exists, delete the segment and re-run lilo.

Thumbs up

I got this problem in Debian distribution and solve it downgrading to the last release of LILO in stable version.
