Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone here has a recommendation for a web browser to use with Linux.

Looking for small footprint, easy on system resources, lightweight but fast.

I'm using fvwm2 as my window manager. Currently I'm using Opera 6.11, but can I do better?

I've heard Konqueror is good, but I assume I need to be running KDE to use it?

I'd either suggest Galeon or Phoenix

Phoenix you can get from www.mozilla.org and Galeon from http://galeon.sourceforge.net

Either that for X or you can use Lynx, its a text based browser you can use to surf from the command line.

If you want something really lightweight (besides Lynx/Links) then there is 'Dillo' and 'Skipstone'

Skipstone is based on Gecko, and if memory serves right, you need the Mozilla libs for it to run. I've used it and its nice, fast and unobtrusive.

Dillo is probaly *the* fastest graphical based web-browser you will ever find. But I wouldnt suggest it if you want to use it alot. Its fast for a reason It doesnt support all methods, and often has trouble processing some more complex HTML code. But its damn fast, and only 200k.

Otherwise, I would stick with Opera

I second this! Although, I have heard great things about dillo's speed too. As for konqueror, where on earth did you hear it was the fastest? And no, you don't have to be currently running KDE to run konqueror, but you do have to have it installed (for libs and such).

Links also has a gui option (links -g) and it has very small memory usage.
