libSDL cause of woe in UT2004? (FIXED)

I have installed the 64bit demo without a problem and have had all resolutions available in the settings, but with full install prgram errors and says it cannot find libSDL-1.2, even though it's there.

In place of the file, I made a dynamic link to the libSDL in my usr/lib folder ( I read using the one compiled by your machine would be best) and NOW the prgram works, but only if I am logged in as a user.

If I try to sh ut2004 as the root I get an openGL error, but if I use my regular login, the prgram runs. It runs but I cannot change the resolutions and the sound is not working.

In my efforts to install the prgram I had to login as root to mount devices, etc. and thusly the install was done in /usr/local/games/ut2004. Is this problematic?

Is there a way to configure libSDL? I have the files to compile but not sure I have the right script to get it done. ie ./configure errors, never get chance to make, or makeinstall.

Just seeing what you might have to say to about this to a guy just getting started in linux.

edit:

MSI Nforce3
AMD Althlon 64 3500+
BFG 6800 GT
Suse 9.2 x86_64
libSDL-1.2.7-41
kernel 2.6.8-24.10-x86_64

- I have since tried to copy the folder to the user home directory and runs the same. All privlidges set.

- After attempting to edit ut2004.ini I noticed there was neither a ut2004.ini or a user.ini. I saved the defaults to the system folder as ut2004.ini and user.ini respectively. I modified the windows size to 1024x768. When prgram runs it still only offers 800x600, and settings still will not allow changes.

Solution: Changed Video Card settings in Yast to 24bit instead of 16. Voila more resolution settings are now avail in UT2004.
