Latex Help - Tabular creating vertical holes in table

Hello everyone

I am trying to create a tabular table for Latex. In my table, I have quotes in each column, so they are very long and wrap around each column. for this reason, I use p{xxcm}, rather than c,r,or l in the architecture for the tabular.

However, I am having a problem. When I use the \\ new line character, a hole is created in the vertical line. I have attached a picture that shows what happens (note that this is just one row in the tabular, not the entire thing).

How can I fix it so I can add a blank line between items #1 and #2, but get rid of those pesky vertical blanks?

The code I have used to create this row in the tablular follows:
----------------------------
\begin{tabular}{|p{3cm}|p{6cm}|p{6cm}|}
\hline

...other rows

%BEGIN KURTZ
\parbox[c]{2cm}{} & \parbox[c]{4.3cm}{} & \parbox[c]{4.3cm}{} \\

Kurtz & 1.~~``This is Kurtz's first quote and it is very long winded and rather boring, seriosly'' & 1.~~``And his first Analysis'' \\

\cr & 2.~~``I must say i am rather annoyed that it works for the second row but not for the first. Please, God, tell me why.&2.~~Seriously \\

\hline

...other rows
\end{tabular}
------------------------------------

Thank you very much for your help.

-Maneesh

Replace the \cr with & & \cr

When LaTeX sees a line consisting only of a newline, it only draws the border for the first cell; you need to have all the cells in the line before the newline for the borders to be drawn.
