Laptop Remina can RDP with my windows office machine but not ubuntu machines
Hi all,
I'm able to access my office windows 7 machine from my Ubuntu 15.04 laptop with Remina via RDP with no problem. I also have two machines on the same network running Ubuntu 14.04 that it can't connect to. I've enabled the relevant boxes under Desktop Sharing Preferences on these Ubuntu machines and even tried turning the firewall off but no dice. Any ideas what the problem might be?
Check 'netstat -n" for listeners. Specifically, look for port 3389. That is the standard RDP port, and if nothing is listening at that port then Ubuntu will not be able to respond to RDP requests.
There are many kinds of virtual desktop, desktop sharing, and RDP is only one. I am not familiar enough with recent Ubuntu to say what the settings really do, but the above check will tell you if it turned on the RDP listener.
