I tried increasing the modem timeout...i did not edit the at commands......everythings damn fine becoz im running as root... do i still need to give it permissions(chown for the app KPPP?..pls specify...? i dont see any /etc/resolv.conf existing..it says there.. "File does not exist" ...actually..this is not the 1st time i tried and found out that configuration file is not existing ...i also tried /etc/hosts.allow (still does not exist..but i think this one shoud be done by typing it in any text editor..(am i right) help me... i want to connect again to the internet bcoz i want to study mysql...any good guru's here who want to help a n00b? Sounds like you might be using SuSE...

Try using kinternet or qinternet to connect instead of kppp. Kppp in SuSE is (re)designed to take the European telephone systems into account, that charge you for connect time for local calls.
