Konqueror: The process for the http:// ... protocol died unexpectedly

When I try to access some of my favorite sites, www.google.com or Yahoo shopping, for example, I get the following error message:

http:// ... is the URL of the site I am trying to reach.

What is going on? I've done a quick search on the subject and find that people have complained about the problems as far back as KDE 2.1.x.

I am running Linux Red Hat 7.3 from the CDROM of the download from linuxcentral.com. That would be KDE 3.0.

The problem appears to occur only when a Konqueror browser has been opened by the user 'root'. I guess this is kind of a good thing, I don't want to access sites from a browser that has been initiated by root in the same sense that I don't want to log on and hook up to the internet as root. I make all such connections by first 'su root' from a less privileged user and then making my connection.

Hi, so it's just a konqueror problem then, and not actually exists when using, say Galeon? OR Lynx
