kmail link delay

whenever i open a link (url) in kmail it pops up a little progress window, sits there for a few seconds as if it's verifying that the server will respond and then finally passes it off to firefox to open (new tab when firefox is already up).
is there a way to disable that intermediate step? i'd really like to get kmail to pass links directly to the browser like other mail clients and not make me twiddle my thumbs so much.

Hello,

you can configure firefox to open a link from another app in the current window and in a new tab.

(Edit/Preferences)
