Red face Kmail Backup

Hi all,

I use suse 9.1 and kmail for emails. I'm also using winxp in dual boot with linux.

I'd like to keep a copy of my emails in kmail to outlook express 6 in winXP.

There is no export option for emails like we have in outlook.

Please do help me how to transfer my email folders from kamil to outlook express 6.

Please reply soon.

regards,
thaddeus fernandes.

Dear thaddeus fernandes,

You should have thought of this a whole lot earlier (actually before you downloaded your first mail in your kmail inbox). have you configured kmail to delete your messages from the server once it fetches it? so sad! you should have left out that option. that way all your mails would have been left on the server and you could have downloaded them again in your outlook client. you could have configured your outlook to delete mails from the server once it fetched it thus keeping your server inbox free for additional new mails. you could then follow the rule of linux first and windows second to always have your mails.
Donot get disheartened you can still backup your mails though on a different style. you must have a 'Mail' directory under your $HOME. just tar+gunzip that directory and save it on some safe place. thats your backup. windows can crash anytime so any backup over it is never never safe. this way you can atleast guarantee your mails are safe somewhere and could be loaded again if need be. if ever you current mail box crashes or gets deleted, you can just replace the 'Mail' directory with the most recent one you backed up earlier. remember to do periodical backups, make the periods as short as possible and you will be much happy with yourself.

your grandfa***** (jus' jokin)
