kernel panic (trying to kill init), libc.so.6

I have a system that runs on 2.6.5 just fine. For debugging/testing of another program, I need to be able to test it with a 2.4 kernel as well (because for some reason on my hardware it takes up a large portion of the CPU, when on others with 2.4 kernel it uses 2%). I compiled the 2.4 kernel and included (im fairly sure) everythign necessary. When I try to boot it, it comes up saying that init could not find libc.so.6, and then the kernel panics.

Any ideas?

Thanks
