kernel 2.6.10 - few questions
At last I managed to get to work my debian with 2.6.10 - i' really pleased, while i had tried for quite a long time... Anyway, it's a fresh configuration so it doesn't enitrely work as I would like it to.
1. When the system is booting it's reaching the phase when :
Detecting hardware :
appears. However, the system just stops on that and nothing else happens. It's weird because everything is detected before this one. I have to stop this program by Ctrl+C. Anyone encountered something like that ?
2. I've compiled a few things into my new kernel : ACPI : ACPI,ACPI_SLEEP,ACPI_AC,ACPI_BUTTON,ACPI_VIDEO,ACPI_FAN,ACPI_PROCESSOR and in APM : APM,APM_ALLOW_INTS,APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF. But the commands : halt, reboot etc. just don't work. The message is shown System is going down or Rebooting but I'm able to switch the terminals or get into X system ? It's really frustrating because I have to switch the power manually, by pushing the button, which is unacceptable on Linux.
3. Kernels 2.4* required in debian /etc/modules.conf and the 2.6* needs /etc/modprobe.conf. And I needed to install module-init-tools version 3.2 . (My old 2.4.27 doesn'y like this version but still works). I generated /etc/modules.conf by
/sbin/generate-modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf (This script is a part of module-init-tools) and this file works perfectly. However i receive this message at boot up :
WARNING : /etc/modprobe.conf exists but does not include /etc/modprobe.d
. What should I do with this ? Shall I include modprobe.d content in modprobe.conf ?
Any help on any problem would be appreciated, thanks in advance !
