kernel 1.0 compilation


hi there,

i am trying to compile a the linux kernel 1.0 on redhat linux 9.0. i took the source from of kernel 1.0 from the net and tried to compile it on the redhat linux 9. anybody knows how to compile this......

if anybody knows where to get the first version of linux operating system then plz let me know...

why in the name of heaven would you want to compile this thing?

To get the first version, well, go download it from www.kernel.org, HOWEVER this is likely to be VERY HARD to compile, as the glibc version has changed a lot since 15 ( ? ) years...
If you want to take a look at this old thing, it would be easier to download some very old version of linux. You could also use LFS I guess. Or you could use some chrooted environnement to compile it but I doubt you will be able to boot from it then.

In any case it is _very_ doubtful that Linux 1.X will run on a RH 9.0 version unless MAJOR tweak, you will need to heavily downgrade most library version, that will break most of the recent stuff...

Also it probably doesn't even support 90% of the hardware your using, unless your compiling on a machine from the days in which 1.0 was released..

Also you should think of getting rid of Redhat 9 since its outdated and has no more upgrades from Redhat. Fedora and RHEL are the replacement distros for Redhat 9 and below.
