KDE Neon 5.14 plasma-discover segmentation fault (11)

I need help with Linux Neon 5.14
The system update, after install, caused a problem with software manager.
Whenever I try to run it I get this error:
Executable: plasma-discover PID: 3727 Signal: Segmentation fault (11)

It's a KDE Plasma version 5.14.5, KDE Frameworks version 5.54.0

At this point because I can't do updates or install/uninstall software.
WHat's the fix for that?

Discover should not be considered a primary package manager. Its foundation is the Debian apt/dpkg system.

1-Log out of your Plasma session

2-Ctrl-Alt-F2 (or F3, or F4)

3-log in at the text prompt

4-do
Code:
$ sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade
Hopefully this will upgrade your system into a state in which Discover will no longer segfault, but even if it doesn't, you should be fully updated, safe to continue normal usage.

Thanks. It didn't do any good. The information shown was "0 packages updated/upgraded/removed".
I've gone as far as removing discover and re-installing it. Still - it crashes with that error.
This is disappointing. Neon looks like a solid 64-bit distribution but it's useless without software installer.
I wanted to give it a try, after a few years of using Mint 17. I've even tried Mint 64-bit distro but it wouldn't install. I've recorded a few DVD coasters.

DO you have any other ideas for that problem with Neon?

Anything you might install via Discover you can install with apt or aptitude. It's just a different interface. The problem likely is more or less transient, something that will go away at some point on via another round of 'apt update; apt upgrade'. In the mean time, you should be able to install a more familiar GUI package installer, Synaptic or Adept or another I never use.

If you search https://bugs.kde.org/ you might find a bug has already been reported, maybe even fixed too, with the fix just not yet having reached the mirrors. If you don't find an existing bug, you could file a new report. Another place to search would be KDE's own forums or mailing lists, where someone might be familiar with the problem, maybe even have a solution.

Meanwhile you should be able to give Neon a more thorough shakeout. One package manager's boo-boo while alternatives work shouldn't be reason to quickly dismiss a whole distro. Remember, both Mint and Neon are built on a foundation of Ubuntu, which in turn is built on a foundation of Debian, and apt and dpkg. The primary difference is Mint's default DE isn't Plasma, while on Neon Plasma is. If you like Plasma, Neon should be a great distro choice.

synaptic worked! Thanks! I didn't know there was more than one software manager available. I stand corrected.
I'm usually not discouraged buy small obstacles but this was a deal-breaker to me.
Thanks again!
