Ok, so by default KDE will auto sort my icons from top left to top right horizontally, or I can make it sort them vertically from top left to bottom left.
How do I alter this behaviour? Like to make it MacOSXish and have it do vertical from top right to bottom right? Or to be weird from bottom right horizontally toward bottom left, or even vertical starting from the bottom of either side? That sort of thing? I thought there was a fairly easy to find setting to do this, but can't seem to find it anymore if there was. Even if it's something that involves manually editing some config file... whatever. I'd really like to know how in any case, because frankly I'm bored with the whole Windowsesque icon arrangement. Besides I've found some really cool wallpapers that have the empty space on the right because they're made for Mac & Windows(Hebrew Edition).
If you right click on the desktop, and move the cursor to the Icons... submenu, you can select whether you want to line up icons vertically or horizontally.

Yeah, which will line up the icons so long as I've drug them into the order and relative position I want them in. Any icons that get added though, will try to add to the top left, and have to be manually sorted or else ALL the icons get moved to the left.
I know how to sort the icons, I wanted to know how to alter the default placement of them.
In the new KDE you have an option called "lock icons"
Found that ages ago. Like it because w/o it I run into a weird problem where my icons would be randomly rearranged when I logged back into my acct. Still doesn't have any efffect on the things that get newly saved to the desktop. It also doesn't make it so that hitting line up when things are on both sides of the desktop they won't group all to the right.
It does. it's just that some of the icons get rearranged if they aren't locked.
Oh, and double checked something I thought about the auto-line up command doesn't keep them where you put them. It lines them up along the top or the right depending on selection of horizontal or vertical.
