Question KDE fontsize and Eclipse Crash

Ok here I am once more with a really annoying problem (or two to be precise):

When I log in to KDE (3.4.2b) the fonts are just incredibly big (on a 15'' 1400x1050 screen I get fonts that are 1 cm in height...).
I tried to figure out how to fix this but I couldn't get anywhere. I tried several settings for /etc/X11/XF86Config and /etc/X11/Xresources but they seem not to affect the KDE fonts in the slightest way... also if I start a GTK application the fonts are even bigger...

And speaking of GTK Applications here comes my second problem: Eclipse 3.1 crashes after a random amount of time (sometimes at the splash screen and sometime after about 20 seconds). I read somewhere it has to do something wit the QT-GTK bindings but could not figure out how to fix it...

Please help me

Have your tried adjusting the fonts using the font configuration tool under appearance & themes in kcontrol?

Yes I did, but it definitely is not acceptable that I have all fonts set on 6pt and they still look like 30pt...
Also all GTK Applications have incredibly huge fonts.
