That may vary somewhat depending on decisions made by the maintainers of whaterver distro you are referring to, but the first place I'd look is Menu-->Applications-->System.

I was tired, I should have mentioned it is slackware 14.2, 32 bit.

I log into KDE and Xfce, and there is no package manager or updater. I am used to mint.
I used this video to re-install. At the end eznix starts to use a means of downloading software from repositories using a terminal in part. Is that how it is done? Also in his video there are icons in the bottom right of his Xfce screen. I don't have them on mine. I can see my cursor right at the bottom of the screen. How can I take a screen shot to get help?
