Kanotix/CPX.Mini iso downloads stop and will not resume

When I try to download an iso for CPX-Mini, regardless of whether I get the tested or testing version, the download stops responding over halfway through and I end up having to kill Wget; when I try to resume it, I recieve this line at the bottom and nothing happens until I kill Wget again:

56% [++++++++++++++++++++ ] 136,669,437 --.--K/s

If I include the -d option, here is a sample result with the tested version:

Quote:
DEBUG output created by Wget 1.9.1 on linux-gnu.

--01:00:59-- http://debian.tu-bs.de/project/cpx-m...CPX-MINI-3.iso
=> `KANOTIX-2005-04-CPX-MINI-3.iso'

Releasing 0x54fe60 (new refcount 1).
---request begin---

Host: debian.tu-bs.de
Accept: */*
Connection: Keep-Alive
Range: bytes=136670509-

---request end---
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...
And using the other server:

Quote:
DEBUG output created by Wget 1.9.1 on linux-gnu.

--01:11:23-- http://www2.informatik.hu-berlin.de/...CPX-MINI-3.iso
=> `KANOTIX-2005-04-CPX-MINI-3.iso'

Now I can easily understand one server having problems, perhaps even both having problems with a corrupt file that was mirrored, but the testing version ( KANOTIX-2005-04-CPX-MINI-7.iso instead of KANOTIX-2005-04-CPX-MINI-3.iso ) does almost exactly the same thing. In addition, I had tried earlier to download Kanotix Lite with Kget ( from the server in Austria, I believe ) and it stopped at around 400 MB into the file and would not resume either. The size alone cannot be the issue, as I have successfully downloaded a Dreamlinux Studio iso that was over 470 MB and booted from it afterwards ( of course, someone graciously included wvdial in the distro but left out setserial so my modem had no means of being detected, but that is a story for another day ).

While I find it impossible to believe that there could be a glitch that prevents me from downloading any Kanotix-related distribution regardless of the server, size, or download manager, this is almost what it seems like. Is there some sort of undocumented way to force such downloads to resume with Wget or Kget?

There isn't a secret way, but if you read the man page for wget, you'll find the continue option.

The continue option is what I had been using to resume the downloads in the first place ( the output posted was the result of "wget -c -d" + URL ) and it worked perfectly well until the point specified.

OK. From your message, I thought that you were using the -d option and not the -c option.

It sounds like a networking problem rather than a problem with wget.
Are you using broadband or a dialup connection? I used "wget -c" to download a SuSE 10.1 dvd from a mirror. I aborted it several times and resumed it the next day without seeing your problem.

I also started a wget download using the link you provided and aborted and restarted it after about 5 MB was downloaded. The output you posted was displayed for about 6 seconds, and the download resumed after that.

Could it be either that with the amount you downloaded, either you didn't wait long enough for the server to respond, or the server didn't respond in a timely fashion and the connection timed out due to no activity?

I am using a dialup connection.

Wget -c worked perfectly well for a few other downloads ( and took only about five seconds to resume, in general ) and the first 56% of the CPX-Mini download - it only hangs at a certain point.The "HTTP request sent, awaiting response" message always lasted until I killed the process, which was from about two to eight minutes each time.

It does seem most likely to be an issue with the server responding, but in that event I find it strange that both servers have the same exact problem at different times of day and always at the same location in the file - and at a similar fixed location in one other file.

The download that I started/stopped/restarted concluded successfully.

One thing to consider is to install ktorrent, and search for a torrent. If there is one, the torrent download will take longer, but can be spread out in time while you are online doing other things.
