k3b/cdrecord error

first off, i want to say that since i began with linux (slackware) i have had problems just like anyone else switching from winblows, but it seems that this forum has helped me with most of the problems i have had so far, so i have had no need to post. thanks, guys, you have been very helpful. and if people who seem to hate windows but are afraid of linux could read, they might not be stuck in the microsoft corporate cage...

but on to my question...

alright, im running slackware 10.2 custom kernel 2.4.31 on a intel celeron compaq pavilion. im trying to get my atapi cd-rw 15x48 to burn with k3b, only i get an error message from cdrecord that says this:

ive tried to use other writemodes, but it doesnt seem to help, k3b still comes back with an error. the k3b faq seems to be limited, and i also tend to be the only person in the universe with this drive and error. any help would be appreciated...

do you have scsi emulation enabled in your kernel. 2.4 kernels need this.

you need to recompile your kernel and make it built in.

is there a way i can check to see if its already there? i included scsi support when i recompiled because i had a problem with this sort of thing in a previous installation of slack 10.0. from /var/log/dmesg...

SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
scsi0 : SCSI host adapter emulation for IDE ATAPI devices
