K3b and brasero burning issues, error 254


My computer has been consistently burning coasters every time. This has been going on for about two weeks now and I have no idea what to do. I usually back up my data to dvds and make audio discs for my gf. Braseros error message isn't helpful and k3b just says error 254. In an attempt to solve this issues I switched to cdrecord from wodim and it doesnt help. Below is the debugging output from k3b. Any help is greatly appreciated folks.

Is any data actually getting transferred to the disk? I think that cdrecord is actually throwing the error.

Try recording directly from the command line with cdrecord and capture any error messages. This LQ article explains how:

You can also google "cdrecord error 254"; that will turn up a wealth of links, most of which indicate it's a permissions problem of some sort. This one specifically relates to someone using Ubuntu:
