it told me not to compile Nvidia Riva . im doing it anyways !

Hey guys... for some reason im having seriouse trouble getting a VESA VGA console (for boot splash)

ignore boot slash for now... ill wory about that afer ive got the framebuffer working.

ive done this before in fedora with no problems, and i always use a custom kernel.
(yes, its patched for bootsplash and i have the userspace rpograms installed)

now im using gentoo (kernel 2.6.8.1-r3)

anyways, breaking away from tradidion this time i decided to read the manual for bootspash, i enables the kernel modules it told me to, and avaopided all the options it told me to avoid.

however, when attempting to boot, whatever vga= parameter i pass gives a Undefined mode error.

one thing that the instruction manual did say was not to enable the Nvidia Riva support.
i read the documentation, it says that its a VESA driver for Riva / GeFOrge graphics cards... so last time i did this frame buffer thing i probably enabled it (i have a GeForce 4 440 MX).. and it worked.

so im wondering, does any1 know why im not supposed to use this driver ?

im compiling it now... hopefully it WILL work. this id so annoying... i managed it bofore effortlessly... this time i read the manual (just incase) and now im stumped
