Is there any Linux benchmarking software?

I'm looking for a benchmark that can quantify performance differences between Linux distros. I want to test lxle, a new community spin of Ubuntu, running lxde, and including older drivers that have been depricated from the kernel vs. Lubuntu 12.10 Alternate, both installed on bare metal on the same P4. I want to see if I can document whether lxle makes a substantive difference on older hardware.

Hello

Take a look at the Phoronix Test Suite to see if it will meet your needs:

You can check your distro repositories for ready to go packages.
