bulliver, have u been able to use pyslsk lately??? i used it a lot, and loved it but suddenly it just stopped working. when i open it, it opens the window that says on the bottom "listening on port 2245" and then gives me the message "the connection timed out". i havent been able to use it on windows either
i think i've been over this p2p threads for a while, and i've tried to use a lot of this programs but cant seem to find a good one.
gift looks like a good option, but if you read what says on this page ttp://gift.sourceforge.net/download.php , you'll see there are no available releases.
i've tried dcgui, which masterc recommends a lot, and didnt like it at all. first you have to find a hub, then you make a search (takes ages and i was never able to find anything), the moment i finally found the movie i wanted, i queued it, but i was never able to download.
tried to install limewire, java virtual machine is not user friendly at all,
i had already installed j2re and j2sdk from sun.com (which i needed to play games at yahoo, and took a while to install), so i thought i had already jvm on my machine, but when i try to install limewire it says i dont have it.....
tried gtk-gnutella and i had also instalation problems because of a missing glibc 2.3 dependency
tried edonkey, never found what i wanted either (pretty much as dcgui)
i dont know what to do and im stuck using imesh for windows, which slows down my computer and pops up an advertisement every 5 secs., but has the movies and songs i want, and does download them.
please help!!! i hate windows and would love being able to download p2p from linux.
i dont know anything about programming, but is it that hard to make a program for linux that works the way imesh or kazaa do?????
gift looks like a good option, but if you read what says on this page ttp://gift.sourceforge.net/download.php , you'll see there are no available releases.
You have to get it through CVS. Read the instructions on the website, its very easy (two commands).
GiFT is the best in my opinion. Its the only one ive seen w/ fastrack access, and its connections are solid.
Is it as good as Kazaa? For me it is better. I find all the music I like and most mp3s you find have a bitrate of at least 160 kbps. So, chances you download crap are less.
If you want to download movies too, then you'll have to find another program. Soulseek is a music-only P2P app.
i would try to ask for the patches if i could access the chat.
when i open it, i doesnt show anything, just a white screen that says the connection timed out.
i think it is trying to connect to the wrong server
what server are u connecting to????
and yes, i think soulseek is the best one if you want to download mp3's
which do u think is the best one for movies (avi's)???
Once you compile and install it, then run "giFT-setup" and read and answer the questions CAREFULLY (they have trick questions in there, just to be sure).
and then you have to get a GUI for giFT. I like giFTcurs, a curses frontend. Check the giFT website for it.
Then once thats done, run "giFT -d"
Once you have that daemon (giFT -d) running, you can run the giFTcurs frontend (that you need to install). "giFTcurs"
$ sh autogen.sh
$ make
$ make install (as root of course)
after that i ran giFT-setup and i did read and answered everything (even the trick question), but still when i try running 'giFT' or 'giFT -d', it tells me there is no such command
i made uninstall, installed it again, but it doesnt work
