When installing Red Hat 8.0 I did not try installing software from installation disk #3, since there was no prompt for this. After installation was finished, I have not been able to find out how to install that software. I am unable to download Firefox, Thunderbird, etc, because some lib resources are missing. Maybe I can do that with the resources that are on disk #3. Anyone help? BobJ

Unless one is familiar with the packages included in a particular distro, it becomes tough to find out dependencies and install them from the appropriate CD disks. The best way would be a full install ('everything') mode of Red Hat 8.0. This will use all the 3 RH disks and u will become familiar with what packages reside in which CD.......Now, since you have already installed Red Hat 8, you can upgrade to full-install mode by going to
Start (Red Hat) -> System Settings -> Add/Remove Applications ...Select all unchecked packages and click on 'UPDATE'....

Now regarding your installation problem of Mozilla and thunderbird...do the following...

1. Download the Thunderbird tar.gz binary. Then untar and decompress it. Now run the setup script. It will give some errors due to failed dependencies..right?

2. Now, one by one, use google to search for rpms for the missing files...lets say...if the missing library was libcrypto.so, you just need to search google for the following term:

libcrypto.so+rpm

note: select the rpm for RedHat 8!

Now you have 2 options, either download the rpm from the internet or just note down the name of the rpm file that satisfies the dependency....or...locate that rpm file from the 3 redhat cds and install it from the CD...
