Installing R on Fedora Core 2

Hi,

I want to install "R" on my laptop running fedora core 2 (desktop NOT workstation install....I know, probably a mistake!). When I download the rpm from the bristol CRAN mirror (sorry I put in the URL but was asked to take it out before posting) and run "rmp -Uvh R-1.9.1-0.fdr.1.2.i386.rpm" I get the following.....

warning: R-1.9.1-0.fdr.1.2.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 97d3544e
error: Failed dependencies:
libtk8.4.so is needed by R-1.9.1-0.fdr.1.

Has anyone installed R before and if so would you care to walk me throgh what I need to do, bearing in mind I'm new to Linux and have no idea how to compile anything!?

Thanks,

Euan

libtk8.4.so is wahat u need as it says...

the best solution would be to google it...

ive found that its available as RPM for Suse Linux...

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i586.rpm.html

U could install the above rpm ... but it may have dependencies which are not there on ur fedora system.. if u cay satisfy all the dependencies ... go ahead and install it.

Have a look at the provides section ---> it provides libtk8.4.so

Provides :
wish
wish8.4
libtk8.4.so
tk

Fantastic!

That was easy...I got the fedora specific version and installed it via rpm. Subsequently R installed without a hitch. I think I'm going to like Linux!

You're a star. Cheers,
