Installing Mandrake 8.1 Video card problems

I recently tried installing Mandrake (8.1). I didn't get the correct settings for my monitor/video card at the end of setup. Is there a way of resuming setup in a low resolution mode to correct the problem. When I boot Mandrake, the screen goes on standby.

you can do it all in console.. there's no need for a gay 'safe mode'... do ctrl+alt+F1, and log in there, then run Xconfigurator. or drakconf... then defnie them there.
