installing madwifi-tool on ubuntu

hello,

I installed newly Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on Acer Aspire One notebook. When I issued the command 'sudo apt-get install madwifi-tools' it returns 'Couldn't find package madwifi-tools'

In software sources, all the options main, universe, restricted, multiverse are checked. Please help me in installing it.

Maybe there is no need of madwifi (if so, you need to get it from a Debian source, I think) since the corresponding driver (ath5k) is now a (functioning!) part of the Linux kernel.

Hi,

I wanted to use 'wlanconfig'. This is bundled with madwifi-tools. Is there any alternative.

Haven't you got the wired and wireless network manager 'wicd' in your repository? I would really recommend it:

"Wicd is a general-purpose network configuration server which aims
to provide a simple but flexible interface for connecting to networks.
Its features include:
wide variety of settings.
* ability to connect to (and maintain profiles for) both wired and wireless networks;
* support for many encryption schemes, including WEP, WPA, WPA2 and custom schemes;
* wireless-tools compatibility;
* tray icon showing network activity and signal strength;
* lack of GNOME dependencies (although it does require GTK+), making it easy to use in Xfce, Fluxbox, Openbox, Enlightenment, etc. "

Actually, I am trying to configure wireshark to sniff wireless packets on acer with ubuntu. For that I requried wlanconfigtool to put the wireless card in monitor mode.

If you have any alternate method of doing it. Please post it.

thanks in advance.
