here's my situation:
i am on my laptop now since my box has crapped out and i really don't feel like using it anymore until i can dedicate some time to it so i figure i'll install Linux on my laptop for the time being... HOWEVER....
1: i'm on a IBM Thinkpad i-Series so i'm wondering if the HW is going to be compatable.
2: i only have 1 gig of space to make it Dual boot so what flavor should i use. let me rephrase this: what flavor should i go with that offers the most using the least amount of space?
3: where to get the Linux OS that you recommend and what will i need to install it?
First, you might have posted what laptop you were using and how much and of what it has onboard so we could actually have helped.
Second, you might have actually checked the search feature and the forum history for the other 5 billion threads where people ask what distro to use since their all basically listed with every feature explained already.
Third, why not just look at the forums for the different distros and try each one till you like it?
Distribution: Slackware, Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Mac OS X

Rep:
1. throw in a knoppix disk or the slack live cd and check your hardware out.
2. slack w/a custom install to insure you get all the packages you need, and none of the ones you don't. have a look at this

1: IBM ThinkPad i-Series Type 1161-250. I'm not sure what's on this 1988 laptop except that it's a PI 500 Celeron!
2: i tried search but i wasn't sure what key words to search for. assistance please. i am searching as I am typing this.
3: liking it is one thing, able to use it with limited space is another. I would LIKE to use Slack (maybe too much for a nub like me right now) or RH (which sounds OK but maybe too simple) but my space is limited.
