Hello,

I am trying to install J2SE Development Kit 5.0 on my slackbox (i have an rpm file which installs to /usr). Unfortunately i get the following errors...

user@host:~/Desktop# rpm -ivh jdk-1_5_0-linux-i586.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
glibc >= 2.1.2-11 is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs
sh-utils >= 2.0-1 is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs
fileutils >= 4.0-8 is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs
gawk >= 3.0.4-1 is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs
textutils >= 2.0-2 is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs
/bin/sh is needed by jdk-1.5.0-fcs

I do not want to believe that these utilities are outmoded. Does anybody have an idea of what i am doing wrongly?

i don't really know anything about slackware accept it predates rpm
i'm assuming you just have a copy of rpm arround (like i do)
for those times when using such a questionable tool is the only option....
therefore it doesn't actually keep track of anything so do.
rpm -ivh --force --nodeps
to beat it into submission
