Installing GIMP 2.0 on Fedora help?

I am trying to install GIMP 2.0 on my Fedora FC1. GIMP 1.2 is installed from the CDs and works fine.

I did not find any RPMs for GIMP 2.0 so I attempted a manual install.
I downloaded files such as GTK, atk, glib, pango, fontconfig, libart etc. I can untar them but where do I put them to start with?
GTK seems to make its own directories. Should I put them in /usr/bin or something else?

Usually you put them in /usr/local, when you type make install it will put all of the files in the right dirs though.

If you're installing things from source the usual procedure is to cd into the folder and then

./configure
make
su
password
make install

You can choose where things are installed by passing the option --prefix=/somewhere/or/other to the configure script like so

./configure --prefix=/home/andy/tmp

if you just run ./configure without any options the default is to install in /usr/local . Good luck.
