Installing gcc 3.02

I am having difficulty configuring gcc 3.02, the newest version. When I type '../gcc-3.0.2/configure' I get a message that says something like: "CC is not defined to a compiler in your enviroment" I did try to define it (using export CC=/...) but I was not sure where to define it. It kept coming saying that I needed a compiler to direct it to but I don't have one yet. That is why I am doing this in the first place! Also what directory(ies) sould my path be defined for?
Thanks,
Erik

Also I am configuring it for my personal system, so it is native right? That is why I am having problems with this, correct?

Unfortunately you require a compiler to compile anything (including another compiler!). This means that you'll have to find a pre-compiled binary version first, and then compile 3.0.2 from that. If you have your distribution CD's there should be a compiler on there that you can install.

Hope this helps

Matt
