installing gcc 2.95.3

I am running red hat 9 with kernal 2.4.8
I currently have gcc 2.96-98 installed adn would like to downgrade to gcc 2.95.3.
i have tried installing the tarball file for gcc 2.95.3 but a problem arises when gcc2.95.3 creates an error when I try to install the tarball file.

When i type in make bootstrap the error below comes out

make[3]: *** [makeinfo] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/objdir/texinfo/makeinfo'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/objdir/texinfo'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/objdir/texinfo'
make: *** [all-texinfo] Error 2

is there another way to install gcc 2.95.3 without compiling the tarball but this method should not clash with the gcc 2.96 currently installed.

Thanks in advance.

With those error messages is hard to know. The "real" error message is above those ones you've posted. Instead of downgrading (which I understand since Redhat's 9.0 gcc is awful) you could try to upgrade for a better one, as gcc 3.x
