installing driver

I am trying to install a wireless driver on my debian machine. I type in the command, tar xvzf b44-1.00g.tar.gz. I get this error message.

Where are you trying to extract this to? The error about utime seems to indicate an unusual situation with permissions and/or filesystem.

Also, when you are posting output from the terminal on the forums, please copy and paste it into the actual message with the CODE block. Having to open an image just to see text, while we are on a text-based forum, is a bit silly.

It will extract into the current working directory, wherever that may be. So what is the filesystem and permissions of the working directory?

and WHY are you trying to use "tar" on the extracted "Makefile" and the "b44.c" and "b44.h" files
"tar" is used to extract files from a tar archive
not to build source code .
