Install of Ruby on Rails not working
After days of searching for a solution with no luck I would greatly appreciate a little help. I would like to learn ruby and ruby on rails. I believe I have installed all the proper software according to the instructions, however when I test the link (About your application's environment) on the index.html page with the WEBrick test server, it does not return the desired result. Instead it gives a "Routing Error Recognition failed for /rails/info/properties" I believe the function should return this output: (manually run from a terminal)
About your application's environment
Ruby version 1.8.5 (i486-linux)
RubyGems version 0.9.4
Rails version 1.1.6
Active Record version 1.14.4
Action Pack version 1.12.5
Action Web Service version 1.1.6
Action Mailer version 1.2.5
Active Support version 1.3.1
Edge Rails revision unknown
Application root /var/rails
Environment development
Database adapter mysql
It acts like a path problem but I can't figure out how to correct it. Probably overlooking something simple. Any ideas?
Distro- Debian etch
Hardware- Dell Latitude D820 laptop
Thanks in advance.
6/21/07 - I continue to search for a solution. The Ruby on Rails discussion group has numerous folks with the same issues but all the solutions that were suggested I've tried to no avail. A lot of the posts were never responded to just like this one.
Additional behavior that I find interesting is that depending on the user that starts the development server and the directory you start it in will change the message returned. But the message is equally as unhelpful saying Not found or Application error.
I'm about to throw in the towel.

Well I through in the towel, uninstalled all the software and decided to pick it up and reinstall everything. As it turns out, I had been trying to install it all in a specific location. When I just let the software install where it wanted, it worked. I'm rather proud of myself for finally figuring it out however, I'm not totally sure of exactly what I did to make it work over what was making it fail. I really would like to understand that.
