Importing Microsoft Publisher file to an Open Source program

Hello All,
I have friend open to the idea of converting his business computer to Linux. I am reluctant to do/recommend this because all of their company invoices and bids were created in MS Publisher 2003 and 2007. I am well aware MS Publisher is an entry level program compatible with nothing, but is anyone aware of an open source alternative? I looked in to Scribus but that may be too advanced for this user and from my research does not appear capable of importing/opening his old .pub documents , to which he will need access.

Might try inkscape, to create files. If you want to see your files you can send them to something like www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/ and convert them to PDF.
Scribus and Open office or Libre office both have Draw programs the might do what you need. There doesn't seem to be an easy alternative for a direct replacement for Publisher. Another alternative might be to install office under wine. Not the greatest option, but it might work till another alternative is available.
