ICEauthority file permissions mysteriously changed

Hi,

I suddenly started to have problems starting up Gnome on one of my user accounts - all I was getting was an error message saying "unable to read ICEauthority file".

So I logged in as root, and had a look at the ICEauthority file in question, in /home/user.

It turned out that the permissions on the file had been changed to "root". Changing them back to "user" solved the problem.

The question is: how did this happen? I've googled this and seen some references to it being caused by certain cd-burning programs, but I never had this problem before, and I haven't installed any new software for ages.

Anybody had a similar experience?

Andrew
