i686 or athlon RPMs? (RH9)

Hi to all,

I have an AMD Athlon processor and I am using Red Hat 9 (2.4.20.8). At the logon screen, linux says "Red Hat 9 Shrike on i686".
When I want to download an rpm package should I dl the one that says i686 (or i386) or the one that says athlon? To be more precise, I want to dl modem drivers and I do not know which to choose : hcfpcimodem-1.06full_k2.4.20_8-1rh.i686.rpm or hcfpcimodem-1.06full_k2.4.20_8-1rh.athlon.rpm?

PS: I fairly new to linux so please keep it as simple as possible.

Since this sounds like a kernel module ( it being a driver ) you may want to stick with the package that matches exactly the kernel your running, or you will have incompatibility problems.

use uname -a to get the full information about what kernel your running.

uname -a gives me:
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.20-8 #1 Thu Mar 13 17:18:24 EST 2003 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

so, my question remains.

a friend of mine usggested i try
"rpm -q --qf '%{ARCH}\n' kernel".

This gives me an "athlon" output, so I guess I have my answer.

Thanks for all the help!
