I want to try KDE 3.5.7 but...

I want to try KDE 3.5.7 but the last time i tried to upgrade from 3.5.4 it messed kde up, i cant remember how it was fixed but it was problems. Does anyone have any tips on how to easily go back to 3.5.4 if things mess up again, or any other tips in general about the subject.

Any help very much appreciated.
