I need to install GNOME 2.0.0 (2002) in a very old version of a Linux distribution in 2022!

Hey guys! Since this year is the 20th anniversary of the release of GNOME 2, I want to install the initial release of GNOME 2 which is 2.0.0 in a existing Linux distribution version of that year since I can't find a alpha/beta/final distribution version that came with said release.

Here is the GNOME 2.0.0 source I found so far: https://download.gnome.org/desktop/2.0/2.0.0/sources/

Do you guys know how to install it?

RHL 8.0 released September 30, 2002 had gnome 2. It does not say specifically which minor version was released but that was the first release of RedHat Linux that included gnome.

The official RedHat archives of that release are here, along with the MD5SUM file to check that they downloaded properly.

DistroWatch says it was 2.0.2 (the package they track is libgnome). And SuSE Linux 8.1 was released around the same time and shipped the same GNOME version.

I would suggest getting a distro with that vintage and run it in a VM.
