i need help on how to install Magic Vlsi plz!!

hello guys!!
i am new in using linux... just my second day today...
well.. up to this moment i have only installed ubuntu 7.04...
the next thing i need to do is to install Magic Vlsi.
i have downloaded a .tar file (magic-7.4.38.tar)... unzipped it...
then i opened a terminal and entered the folder. i read the installation file. it just says: ./configure [options] , make, make install..

i wrote ./configure and then i got the following message:

...
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables..

how can i fix this problem and continue with installing magic Vlsi?

thanks

Well, if you want to build software, you will have to install the development tools somehow. Maybe there is some service which can provide these packages on CD for you, but I don't know of one personally.
