Exclamation I installed Gtk+-1.2.10 for xmms1.2.8, but there is error

I installed Gtk+-1.2.10 for xmms1.2.8, but there is error:
*** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found
*** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gtk-config.
configure: error: *** GTK+ >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first ***
How to solve this problem?

Hello, and Welcome to LQ !

XMMS compilation is complaining about a missing/or not in PATH gtk-config.

What you can do is to look for gtk-config yourself (as root),
either by running (find / -name gtk-config) or
(rpm -ql gtk | grep gtk-config)

and when you find it, put it's path in your $PATH env (by typing export PATH=$PATH:<path to gtk-config>) or setting the GTK_CONFIG variable to that path (export GTK_CONFIG=<path to gtk-config>)

Hope this helps.

gtk-config usually is part of the GTK+ development package. Look for a package called Gtk+-1.2.10-devel or something to that effect.

Btw, is there any specific reason you are installing xmms from source? Most distributions have precompiled packaged for it (even if the RedHat/Fedora version is crippled by removing mp3 support, but that can be easily fixed with an rpm from freshrpms.net).
