hplip driver install failure

Yesterday I foolishly clicked yes when HP-LIP asked if I wanted to upgrade. All went well until it tried to download and install a cp1025nw printer driver. After hours of trying automatic and manual installs I give up. Here's the error:

-------------------
| DOWNLOAD PLUGIN |
-------------------

Checking for network connection...
Downloading plug-in from:
Downloading plug-in: [\ ] 0% error: Plugin download failed with error code = 8
()
error: file does not match its checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered
error: Failed to install Plugin.
error: The device you are trying to setup requires a binary plug-in. Some functionalities may not work as expected without plug-ins. Please run 'hp-plugin' as normal user to install plug-ins.Visit http://hplipopensource.com for more infomation.
error: hp-setup failed. Please run hp-setup manually.

Anyone else having this problem?

hp-setup was run manually many times.

This morning I ran the plugin install via the toolbox (for the 40 billionth time) and the driver installed without a problem so I'm thinking bad checksome or other problem at HP that was fixed overnight.
