Smile how to set font after changing keymap

I have changed keymap using xmodmap. But after change in keymap no language symbols are displaying. Just blank is appearing. I am using self configured linux disribution.
In fedora the font is immediately changing and corresponding language symbols are appearing directly or using Alt-Gr key.
Keymap is changing correctly. I checked it accurding its keymap. But when there is Cyrillic charater in keymap it is displaying blank. where will be these charaters and how xmodmap automatically gets them in fedora.
I installed kbd package and checked but it does not works.
Any suggestions or solutions?
