How was it installed? If it was from an rpm, use the following to find out the package name

rpm -qa | grep -i qmail

or

rpm -qf `which qmail`

Assuming it will probably be something like qmail-version.rpm, use the following to remove it...

rpm -e qmail

John

the system still gives me following:

INIT: cannot execute "/command/svscanboot"
INIT: cannot execute "/command/svscanboot"
INIT: cannot execute "/command/svscanboot"
INIT: cannot execute "/command/svscanboot"
INIT: Id "SV" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

It looks like you aslo removed the daemontools as well, so you'll want to remove the line
Code:
SV:123456:respawn:/command/svscanboot
from your /etc/inittab and then 'killall -HUP init' to re-read the inittab and stop the attempts to spawn svscan.

After you get that, make sure you have no leftover processes running such as qmail, tcpserver.

Too bad you had to delete qmail as it's my all-time fave MTA.
