Exclamation how to remove linux Services??


Somebody please help me....now i'm using non graphical Linux Fedora Core3, how i'm going to remove all unneeded service in linux to make it just simple linux. Somebody please give the some command about how to remove it??

in FC3 you can usually do 'chkconfig <service name> off'.

It doesn't get rid of the app just stops it starting at boot time

Are you talking about completely removing them? or just not having them start up when the system boots?

They are typically started in the start up scripts for the runlevel you are going into.

Just remove the associated S script from /etc/rc.d/rc3.d or better yet, rename the link to a small s instead of a capital S

OK, Hypothetically you do not want the apache web server running. You could either
cd /etc/rc.d/rc3.d
mv S24httpd s24httpd

Sometimes it is called apache rather than httpd.

Another way would be to use the chkconfig command

chkconfig -del httpd

What services are you looking to turn off?
That would help

Can you recommend which services is needed for multimedia Video Conferencing to run in linux? The others services, i want to removes it all.
