how to play video files infc5

hi,
please tell me how can i play .dat files in fc5.
i tried using mplayer but the film gets struck every 1 sec or so and hence is not audible and visible clearly.
same is the case with audio files with .dat extension.they to get struck.

mplayer can play everything known to human kind. more likely you don't have the right codecs installed. get the necessary libraries from the livna repo via yum.
